In the October issue of the Alumni Accent, we asked you to weigh in with your favorite source for finding and reconnecting with Berry classmates. Social media came in No. 1 (surely music to the ears of Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg) with 41 percent of the vote. Second was Class Notes in Berry magazine (definitely music to the ears of the editorial staff) with 24 percent. AlumniConnect was next with 15 percent, followed by mutual friends (10 percent). The remaining votes were split between the upcoming print directory and alumni events (each with 5 percent).

This month’s issue coincides with the end of fall semester, so we thought it would be fun to recall those stressful days and late nights studying for final exams with friends on campus and, yes, sometimes at Waffle House (fire up Garth Brooks on the jukebox and get me some hashbrowns — scattered, smothered, covered and chunked!). Scroll to the bottom of the page to let us know what you remember best about those high-intensity, low-sleep days.

Last month, we asked you to turn back the clock with the question, What was the toughest adjustment you had to make as a freshman at Berry? Based on your response (a record high!), it’s clear you remember those days quite well. The most popular answer, managing your academic course load, accounted for 40 percent of all responses. Next up was living in the residence halls, with 28 percent (who knew you could keep pizza under the bed?). Being responsible for your own schedule (14 percent) and making friends (13 percent) were third and fourth, respectively, while learning to navigate the campus (5 percent) was last.

This month’s question focuses on the sources you rely on most to find and keep track of your Berry friends. We’re especially interested in your level of interest in the AlumniConnect website and the upcoming print directory (preorders now being accepted). Scroll to the bottom and let your voice be heard! If you have a comment on this subject, please share with Alumni Relations Director Chris Watters (89C).

As our regular readers will undoubtedly note, there is something different about this issue of the Alumni Accent. Just in time for the holidays, we’re excited to unveil a new design for Berry’s alumni e-newsletter.

The new template is designed to make it easier than ever for you to interact with friends and classmates at Berry. In addition to the news content you’ve come to expect, the Accent now provides a one-stop platform for those wishing to access our new online community, AlumniConnect, as well as Berry pages on social media sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. The newly designed email template also includes links to calendar items and other content.

News stories are now published in a separate blog accessible by clicking Alumni Accent News in your email. Headlines are also hyperlinked, allowing you to access stories individually if you prefer. Each story is accompanied by a series of “tags” that will prove useful in the future by making it possible to quickly search the Accent blog for all instances in which a particular tag has appeared.

As you browse this issue, please take a moment to register your opinion about the new design by voting in our interactive poll (located in the blog footer). If there are specific enhancements you would like to see (comments, for example, or the ability to share stories via social media), we would love to hear from you. Simply email Chris Watters (89C), alumni relations director, with your suggestions. This is your e-newsletter, after all, and we want to know what you think!
