Senior Josy Roman and Dr. Eric McDowell have once again struck gold with a video collaboration, winning a second-place national award in the Broadcast Education Association’s Festival of Media Arts for The Calculus Priority Dispute. This is the second consecutive year that McDowell and Roman have placed second in the “Two-Year/Small College Video Production” category. This time they were joined by senior Michael Baldvins, who assisted Roman in producing and creating the animation. Both students work for Viking Fusion, a co-curricular multimedia website based in and managed by the communication department.

In other recent news, the Berry College Forensics Union continued its dominance of the Georgia Intercollegiate Forensic Association, winning nine of 11 events en route to its 20th consecutive state tournament championship. Highlights included the 1-2 finish of junior Nicole Wilson and freshman Logan Ramsey in persuasive speaking. Their reward is a trip to James Madison University in April as Georgia’s representatives in the 145th Interstate Oratory Contest.

Letters to SalaSenior Benson Phinazee’s scenic design work on the set of the Berry College Theatre Company’s fall production of Letters to Sala (pictured) has earned him the opportunity to participate in an intensive two-week program at the Stagecraft Institute of Las Vegas this summer. The all-expenses paid trip is part of a regional design and technology award presented by the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival.

Berry speakers continued their dominance of the Georgia Intercollegiate Forensic Association state tournament by claiming top honors for the 19th consecutive year. Berry students won an impressive 40 awards in the competition, including a 1-2 finish in persuasive speaking by senior Alexandria Wisner and sophomore Nicole Wilson, both of whom will compete for national honors in the prestigious Interstate Oratory Contest later this spring.

Senior Sydney Kelly scored a third-place award for Best Review in the Georgia College Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest. Her individual honor was one of seven awards claimed by the Campus Carrier in this year’s contest.

Berry baseball alumnus John Burnett (10C) recently sang in the chorus for The Atlanta Opera’s production of La Traviata. Later this spring, he will lend his voice to another production, The Italian Girl in Algiers.
